San Diego Series: JRDN restaurant

With amazing ocean views, no-bad-seat-in-the-house layout, delicious seasonal menus, and killer cocktails, JRDN (pronounced Jordan) is one of the best beach side restaurants in San Diego. Sitting next to Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, don't let its proximity to rowdy college crowds and aimless Pacific Beach tourists fool you. This gem is hidden in the swanky Tower 23 Hotel so you can enjoy the people-watching while immersed in more sophisticated (but not stuffy) adult surroundings like the 70-ft. lighted wave wall and fresh seafood raw bar. The outdoor patio beckons breakfast, lunch, or dinner but you won't be sorry for stopping by for even just one sunset drink at the bar. Saunter up in your Saturday night best or Sunday afternoon flip flops. Gotta love that either goes here.

Locals' tips: Valet free for 2 hours with validation. Daily Happy Hour (M-F 4-7pm and Sat-Sun 7-10pm) is a great time for deals on drinks and small plates. Start with steamed mussels (cooked with chorizo and chardonnay, yum). If you can splurge, move on to any of the fresh fish/shellfish or steak options. The rib eye is always cooked to perfection. And after a long night, the Bloody Mary that practically comes with a deli-on-a-stick garnish will sort you out. If you're into wine, check out the wine pairings series during the summer on Wednesday nights on the Tower 23 pool patio for $20.
